Divine Paradox

Hello everyone,

I have been thinking a lot lately about why things happen as they do and how divine guidance fits into this equation.  Most people want to understand why certain things happen in their life and there is a tendency to want to put logic onto our spiritual experiences.  So today I want to discuss Divine Paradox and guidance.

There is a real pattern out there now in the ‘New Age’ community to want to know why things happen as they do.  We all want reasons and feel that if we just knew what that illness, break up, job loss, financial crisis, rejection, death or betrayal was about we would be able to move on.  I get emails from people all the time asking me to ‘tune in’ to the angels and request they explain why certain things occurred or how they can better learn to access their own guidance to avoid such things occurring again.

It is very tempting as human beings to want to put everything into a mental/logical format.  When we are operating solely from intellect or mind then we will try to ‘fit things’ into what we already understand or know.   However, spiritual experiences and guidance are often not logical and your soul does not operate in the same way as your mind.

Your ego mind will always want to know why something is happening or happened and how it can protect itself, so it seeks guidance as a means of protection and control.  The soul is not concerned with the details of why or how something happened, it trusts and knows that all things are occurring perfectly and all will be well.  It uses guidance as a means of connection to the Divine for the purpose of the highest good of the All and not just its own agenda.

Guidance for the soul is about receiving information from the Divine that it can use to benefit not only its own growth and life path, but the lives of all it comes across.  It is not about personal gain, control over things or to avoid ‘difficult’ experiences in life.  Many people hope when asking for divine guidance that they will get the answer they want or be told what to do so they do not have to be responsible for their own lives/choices.  But the Divine guidance you receive is for your soul growth, not to keep you from ever making a ‘mistake’ or facing a ‘crisis’ or dealing with ‘difficulty’.
This is where Divine Paradox comes in.  Divine as we know could mean God, the All, the highest within us.  Paradox means:
- A statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth.
- A self-contradictory and false proposition.
- Any person, thing, or situation exhibiting an apparently contradictory nature.
A Divine Paradox basically means an experience of the Divine that may seem contradictory or makes no logical sense.
Divine paradox is the perfect synchronicity in our lives that can look like it makes no sense whatsoever.  It is often only when we look back that we can see the perfection of the experience.  Within our limited minds we cannot often see how one thing will lead us to another or why something had to occur in our lives.  When you can let go of your entitled need to ‘know’, you can flow better with life and trust that all things are perfectly unfolding.
Your guidance is there to support the process not to explain it.  I remember learning this by experience when I was once given a piece of guidance and assumed it meant things were going to work out how I wanted them to.  They ended up working quite the opposite to how I expected but in hindsight the whole event was so perfect I could not have worked it better if I had tried.
To walk a truly spiritual path you must let go your need to personalise everything.   The events that occur in your life are part of a bigger picture and impact others and the planet in ways you could not possibly know at times.  Carl Jung talked about this in his concept of synchronicity – an impersonal function of the collective consciousness – divine paradox is conscious and personal.
When you can get into harmony with why you want guidance and how divine paradox works you can live in a more peaceful and centred state.  Things are not always as they seem, what seems big can really be small and what is small can be big.  The frightening path can be the right one and the safe one is possibly your fear leading you.  Crisis is often a blessing in disguise and your own ego is more your enemy than anyone else’s ever will be.
I personally believe all things happen for a reason, down to the tiniest most seemingly insignificant thing but I am learning to let go of the need to know what that reason is.  We waste a lot of time and energy attaching ourselves to reasons and outcomes but when we can begin to trust we can walk the path with greater reverence and peace.

Love and blessings
